Job summary

Jewson in Luton is seeking a Small Plant Fitter / Tool Hire Mechanic to service, repair and maintain our tool hire fleet. You will work on petrol and diesel engines, electrical tools, and associated equipment on site at Dallow Road.

No prior tool hire experience is required; candidates from electrical, mechanical, automotive, or similar hands-on trades are welcome. We offer full training, safety focused team, and a supportive workplace culture.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a mechanical, electrical, or engineering role
• Ability to fault-find and problem-solve
• Comfortable working with electrical systems and/or petrol & diesel engines
• A proactive, reliable, and safety-focused approach
• Willingness to learn new equipment and processes
• Good communication and teamwork skills

Responsibilities

• Service, maintain, and repair small plant and tool hire equipment
• Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults
• Work on petrol and diesel engines as well as electrically powered tools
• Complete routine safety checks and inspections
• Prepare equipment to a high standard for hire
• Carry out planned maintenance and breakdown repairs
• Accurately complete job cards and maintenance records
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop
• Support branch colleagues as part of a wider team
