Job summary

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting for an experienced Welder to join Cytiva’s life sciences manufacturing operations in Portsmouth. You will weld high-specification stainless steel pressure vessels and process equipment, following approved drawings and procedures.

The role involves TIG, MMA and orbital welding, strict quality controls, traceability, and collaboration with Engineering, Quality and Production teams in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in TIG, MMA or Orbital Welding.
  • ASME IX, EN ISO 9606, EN ISO 14732 or equivalent qualifications.
  • Experience producing high-quality stainless steel welds with back-purging and full-penetration welding.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, welding procedures (WPSs) and technical specifications.
  • Experience in pipe welding and pipe fitting in manufacturing/fabrication.
  • Experience welding in 1G and 2G positions; 6G desirable.
  • Knowledge of pressure vessel and process equipment fabrication techniques.
  • Understanding of non-destructive testing methods (VT, PT, UT, MPI).
  • Commitment to quality, compliance and safe working practices.

Responsibilities

  • Weld and manufacture stainless steel pressure vessels and process equipment to drawings and specs.
  • Carry out TIG, MMA, Orbital or other welding as per procedures.
  • Support fabrication and assembly; perform in-process and final inspections.
  • Maintain manufacturing, quality and traceability records.
  • Report quality concerns, non-conformances and safety issues.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality and Production teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and safety initiatives.
  • Maintain high workshop health and cleanliness standards.

Introduction

Acorn by Synergie is recruiting for an experienced Welder to work at Cytiva, a global organisation operating within the Life Sciences and Biotech sector.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Welder to work on the manufacture of high-specification stainless steel pressure vessels and process equipment used within the Life Sciences and Biotech sectors.

You’ll play a key role in delivering products to the highest standards of quality, safety and compliance within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

Key Duties
  • Weld and manufacture stainless steel pressure vessels and process equipment to approved drawings and specifications.
  • Carry out TIG, MMA, Orbital or other approved welding processes in line with qualified welding procedures.
  • Support fabrication and assembly activities where required.Perform in-process and final inspections to ensure products meet quality and engineering standards.
  • Maintain accurate manufacturing, quality and traceability records.
  • Identify and report quality concerns, non‑conformances and safety issues.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Quality, Inspection and Production teams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance quality, efficiency and manufacturing performance.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety and housekeeping across the workshop.
Requirements
Essential Skills & Knowledge:
  • Proven experience in TIG, MMA or Orbital Welding.
  • Previous welding qualifications to ASME IX, EN ISO 9606, EN ISO 14732 or equivalent standards.
  • Strong experience producing high‑quality stainless steel welds, including back‑purging and full‑penetration welding.
  • Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings, welding procedures (WPSs) and technical specifications.
  • Experience in pipe welding and pipe fitting within a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Experience welding in 1G and 2G positions, with 6G experience highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of pressure vessel and process equipment fabrication techniques.
  • Understanding of non‑destructive testing and inspection methods, including Visual Inspection (VT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI).
  • Strong commitment to quality, compliance and safe working practices.
Qualifications:
  • Apprenticeship‑trained Welder/Fabricator or equivalent time‑served welding experience.
  • Relevant welding certifications and qualifications are highly desirable.
Experience:
  • Proven experience working with stainless steel materials from 1mm thickness upwards.
  • Experience in regulated industries such as biopharmaceutical, pharmaceutical, aerospace, defence, nuclear, food processing or similar high‑specification manufacturing sectors.
  • Experience working to qualified welding procedures and maintaining full traceability documentation.
