Job summary

Hanningfield Process Systems in the United Kingdom is seeking a Welder/Fabricator to join our workshop team, fabricating stainless steel components and assemblies to tight tolerances using TIG and MMA techniques.

You will read engineering drawings, operate shop machinery, and maintain a safe, clean work area while meeting deadlines and quality standards. A recognised apprenticeship and Maths/English are preferred; experience with automatic equipment is a plus.

  • Proficient in fabricating metal parts with attention to quality.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and weld symbols.

Job description

A Welder / Fabricator is responsible for joining metal using a variety of techniques, often to form new structures. You will be required to create high quality stainless-steel products in accordance with Hanningfield Process Systems’ standards and requirements. This work will primarily be carried out at our workshop, with occasional assignments at customer sites as needed. All components requiring welding will be Stainless Steel and will be welded using mainly TIG techniques, however other techniques will also be required such as MMA. You will also be required to have experience in, and be competent at using, workshop machinery.

Key Responsibilities
Welding Techniques and Metal Fabrication Experience
  • Operating appropriate welding equipment correctly in order to join metal components.
  • Cutting, shaping and fabricating metal parts and products, and ensuring that finished products meet high-quality standards.
  • Experience of metal working (specifically stainless steel).
  • Utilise handheld tools such as a hand held screw gun, drill gun, and grinders to prepare material for welding.
  • Operate calipers, weld gauges, tape measures, and other welding hand tool to measure and perform quality checks.
  • Create specific weldment set-ups and fixturing to meet geometric requirements.
  • Rework and/or repair welded parts and products according to engineering specification and/or changes.
Engineering Drawings
  • Reading engineering drawings, understanding specifications and tolerances, weld symbols, bills of materials, and other written instructions or procedures to accurately create equipment and products.
Machinery
  • Experience in using workshop machinery such as guillotines, folding machines, rollers, bandsaws and hydraulic presses to cut and fold and roll material for welding.
  • Willingness to learn and adopt new technologies.
Business Processes
  • Regular liaison with Team Leader or in absence with Production Manager to ensure deadlines are met and priorities assigned.
HSQE
  • Perform quality work checks for in process fabricated items to ensure it is up to the standard that Hanningfield Process Systems expect.
  • Clean and maintain all equipment and tools; maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Ensure that adequate PPE is worn.
  • Promote and enforce a safe working environment by adhering to health and safety regulations and promoting best practices.
Key Qualifications
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of different welding techniques such as TIG and MMA.
  • Knowledge of fabricating and welding different types of metals including stainless steel.
Skills
  • Awareness of ISO 9000 Standard (e.g. work procedures, traceability of materials) and Health and Safety good practice rules in a manufacturing environment. Safety conscious as working with machinery.
  • Possess strong attention to detail.
  • Possess good manual dexterity.
  • Be effective at working to tight deadlines at times.
  • Willing to take instruction and be trained to achieve a high standard of welding & fabrication in line with expectations.
  • Possess good Literacy and Numeracy skills as well as the ability of understanding of technical drawings.
Experience
  • Preferred minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Fabricator/ Welder, if not, then a time served candidate.
Qualifications
  • A recognised Apprenticeship would be preferred.
  • Internal tests may be required for specific jobs – i.e. nuclear work.
  • Proficiency in Maths and English is a must.
