Job summary

The Gambling Commission in Birmingham is seeking an Intelligence Research Officer to join the Intelligence Team, conducting proactive research, identifying threats, and producing intelligence products for regulatory delivery.

You will brief key stakeholders, support colleagues across Licensing, Compliance and Enforcement, and help deliver an intelligence-led approach while upholding data protection and confidentiality standards.

Qualifications

• Experience conducting proactive intelligence research within a regulated environment.
• Ability to brief stakeholders with clear, actionable intelligence insights.
• Knowledge of the National Intelligence Model principles and governance.

Responsibilities

• Conduct reactive intelligence checks through open source and covert research, using multiple data sets and sources of information.
• Interpret information and intelligence, create intelligence logs whilst maintaining databases and intelligence records.
• Conduct horizon scanning for emerging threats, contributing to strategic, thematic and tactical products by presenting information in line with the policies and procedures of the Commission.
• Maintain an overview of the whole team’s work and support them with requests for intelligence products and research against different threats.
• Participate in project work as directed and be prepared to respond to taking on tasks from other parts of the business to support regulatory delivery.
• Build effective and collaborative relationships and communicate with external customers and internal colleagues to ensure that targets and deadlines are met.
• Handle and process sensitive sources of intelligence, ensuring its confidentiality, correct recording and dissemination are always safeguarded.
• Work on a variety of simultaneous research tasks and contribute to urgent tasking or work on wider operations projects as directed.
