DESCRIPTION

Our Client is a global leader in the nuclear power sector.

THE ROLE:

The Thermal Hydraulics Engineer will contribute modelling development, performance analysis, and conceptualisation expertise to our Client’s portfolio of nuclear engineering and fuel manufacturing projects. They will have proven experience and knowledge in Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Nuclear Technology, and Nuclear Safety. They will join a busy department on a permanent staff basis during a period of exciting growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide analysis to support preliminary concept assessment, design, safety case justification, and manufacturing support.
  • Lead designs of thermal management systems and develop thermal modelling/calibration methodologies.
  • Model and analyze thermal hydraulic systems for nuclear and fuel systems (cooling systems, reactor, heat transfer, heat exchangers, etc.).
  • Perform code validation and benchmarking studies.
  • Execute technical studies and report on schedules while interacting with other scientific, engineering, and safety departments.
  • Support design activities via thermal hydraulic simulations in collaboration with Mechanical Design, Codes and Methods, and Safety/Licensing teams.
  • Use thermal hydraulic computer and simulation codes for design and safety assessments (1D, CFD, RELAP5, severe accident, etc.).
  • Support safety justification through analysis and quality assurance.
  • Act as the primary contact for validation cases of analytical methods.
  • Create and deliver regulator presentations and technical reviews to senior management.
  • Perform technical risk assessments and manage requirements for fluid and thermal systems.
  • Draft and review project deliverables such as calculation notes, design specifications, and technical reports.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proven background in heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermal hydraulics.
  • Experience in conceptualizing, modeling, and analyzing thermal hydraulic systems.
  • Proficient in engineering analysis including thermal, fluid, stress, manufacturability, and cost analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear technology and safety.
  • Proficient in thermal hydraulic codes and tools (RELAP5, ATHLET, Thermal FEA).
  • Knowledge of simulation and engineering tools and CFD codes (MATLAB, MELCOR, SPECTRA, ANSYS, CAD, OpenFOAM, etc.).
  • Skilled in steady-state and transient modeling of cooling systems.
  • Strong technical, commercial, and project management skills.
  • BSc or MSc degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments to define design requirements.
  • Ability to provide technical feedback to design and manufacturing teams.
  • Analytical and logical mindset with the ability to handle multiple studies simultaneously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
