Job summary

Inclusion College is seeking a dedicated Mentor to provide high-quality relational and emotional-wellbeing support to learners with SEND or SEMH needs, enabling them to engage in learning and develop stability and personal growth.

Your Role

To provide high-quality relational, and emotional-wellbeing support to learners with SEND or SEMH needs, enabling them to engage in learning and develop stability and personal growth. Through nurturing relationships, emotional regulation work and trauma-informed approaches, Mentors actively promote psychological safety, belonging, and learner wellbeing - central to 'The Inclusion Way.' Mentors help reduce anxiety, stabilise attendance, support regulation, and strengthen personal development and readiness to learn.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching, Learning & Curriculum Delivery

• Support learners to access learning by removing emotional and psychological barriers.
• Use therapeutic communication and co-regulation to prepare learners for participation in learning.
• Engage learners creatively to build confidence and readiness for academic tasks.

Assessment, Monitoring & Reporting

• Records of learner progress, task completion, and engagement.
• Contribute to progress reviews, ILPs, Annual Reviews, EHCPs reviews and assessments.
• Share learning-based observations with teachers.

Relationships, Wellbeing & Behaviour Support

• Build safe, nurturing, trusting relationships using trauma-informed, relational practice to promote safety and a sense of belonging.
• Facilitate emotional check-ins and mentoring conversations.
• Support regulation, behaviour, engagement, and attendance through consistent routines and restorative approaches.

SEND-Informed Practice - "The Inclusion Way"

• Deliver mentoring that aligns with individual needs, including EHCP outcomes and SEMH profiles.
• Implement individualised mentoring and support strategies based on EHCP outcomes, wellbeing plans, and SEN guidance.

Professional Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with colleagues across teaching, pastoral, safeguarding, and clinical teams.
• Maintain professional communications with parents/carers.
• Participate in professional development to maintain high standards and up-to-date practice.
• Attend briefings, team meetings, and case reviews as required.
• Support engagement, rarely cover for absent tutor and teaching colleagues.

Wider Provision Contribution

• Support group activities, enrichment sessions, and trips.
• Contribute to provision-wide culture of nurture, safety, and belonging.

Safeguarding & Compliance

• Uphold all safeguarding expectations and act promptly on concerns.
• Escalate safeguarding concerns promptly.
• Follow GDPR, Health & Safety, and organisational policies at all times.

Alignment to The Inclusion Way

Mentors build relational safety, supporting access, and removing mental health barriers to learning. Mentors improve engagement, participation, independence, and academic progress for learners with SEND mental health needs.

The successful candidate may be required to work across provisions, ensuring consistent standards and service.

The successful candidate may be required to undertake Midus training, Evac training and other professional training required for the role.
