Job summary

NHS Tayside in Scotland is seeking a Healthcare Support Worker to join the operating theatres team. You will support Registered Nurses and Operating Department Practitioners in caring for patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Full training will be provided, prior health care experience is advantageous, and strong communication and teamwork are essential. The post requires 36 hours per week with day/night rotation and on-call as needed.

Qualifications

• Health care experience would be advantageous but training will be provided.
• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team are essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist Registered Nurses (RNs) and Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) in the care and treatment of patients undergoing surgical procedures.
• Work within operating theatres and support the team to ensure patient safety and smooth procedures.

You will play an important part in the patient’s journey, working within the operating theatres and assisting Registered Nurses (RNs) & Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) in the care and treatment of patients undergoing surgical procedures. Health care experience would be advantageous, but not essential as full training will be provided. Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team are essential qualities for this post.

You will be expected to comply with the national Mandatory Induction Standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland (2009) and with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers (2009) for this post.
