Job summary

Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Gloucestershire seeks a motivated Band 5 Scrub Practitioner to join the Theatre team at Gloucester Royal Hospital. The role spans multiple specialties and offers development opportunities within a supportive multidisciplinary team.

You will work 37.5 hours per week, with on-call patterns, in a fixed-term contract up to July 2027. Relevant registration and perioperative experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse or operating department practitioner with current registration.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development and portfolio maintenance.
• Understanding of perioperative practice and patient care.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, effective perioperative care as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Act as scrub practitioner across surgical specialties including complex procedures.
• Prepare theatres, instruments, and robotic/IR equipment.
• Maintain aseptic technique and infection prevention standards.
• Anticipate needs of the surgical team for efficient procedures.
• Document surgical counts and participate in WHO safety checklists.
• Support patients through perioperative pathway with patient-centred care.
• Assist and mentor students, new staff and colleagues in theatre.

Registered Nurse (NMC) or HCPC registration
