Job summary

The Hampshire Clinic, part of Circle Health Group, is seeking a Theatre Practitioner (Bank) to join the theatre team in Hampshire. This bank role is on an as-and-when-required basis, supplementing staffing during busy periods and covering annual leave or absence.

You will assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, and supporting anaesthesia, while adhering to infection control and patient safety standards.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or ODP (HCPC) with theatre experience.
• Experience or training in a theatre environment (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).
• Understanding of infection control, manual handling and patient safety principles.
• Ability to work under pressure and adapt quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and commitment to safe surgical practice.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and supporting the anaesthetist.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and patient requirements.
• Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
• Provide post-operative care, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.

The Hampshire Clinic is part of Circle Health Group, Britain’s leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics, performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country.

We have an opportunity for a Theatre Practitioner to join their team of staff in the Theatre department.

This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Duties of this role include:

• Assist the surgical team by preparing instruments, maintaining sterility, anticipating surgeon needs, and ensuring equipment safety; support the Anaesthetist in equipment preparation, patient monitoring, airway management, and positioning; and provide post‑operative care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain and nausea, and ensuring patient readiness for discharge.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and procedures at all times.
• Set up operating theatres according to surgery type and specific patient requirements.
• Check all surgical and anaesthetic equipment prior to use and report faults immediately.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to achieve safe and efficient surgical lists.
• Support and contribute to a positive, respectful, and efficient theatre environment.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC).
• Experience or training in a theatre environment in at least one area (scrub, anaesthetics, or recovery).
• Understanding of infection control, manual handling, and patient safety principles.
• Ability to work under pressure, problem‑solve, and respond quickly to changes in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to safe surgical practice.
