Theatre Department Assistant - Elective Surgery (Part-Time)

Job summary

Hywel Dda University Health Board is seeking a capable Theatre Department Orderly to join the elective theatre team at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli. The role is part-time, 16.5 hours per week, with shifts Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 18:30, and an induction programme to support learning.

Previous operating theatre or healthcare experience is advantageous, with full training provided. Welsh language ability is desirable; interview date is 12/11/2026.

Qualifications

• Literate and numerate.
• NVQ Level 2 or willingness to work towards this.
• Experience of working in a health or social care environment.

Responsibilities

• Assisting the surgical team in transferring patients using prescribed manual handling techniques.
• Escorting patients to the theatre unit prior to surgery.
• Escorting post-surgical patients to the surgical ward with support from trained staff.
• Cleaning the theatre environment between patient surgical procedures.
• Assisting with daily operating theatre tasks such as collection and handover of medications, notes, equipment and supplies.
• Restocking the linen trolley and staff scrub suits as required.
