Job summary

BEDFORDPERM is recruiting an experienced Test Technician for a well-established client in Wellingborough. The role focuses on testing to procedures and specifications, disassembling/reassembling field returns, and reconfiguring hardware for testing.

Hours are 40 per week, Monday to Friday. You will diagnose faults, operate test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analysers) and provide feedback to Engineering and Management.

Qualifications

• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Confident using test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analysers).
• Practical hands-on skills with hand and power tools for disassembly/testing/reassembly.
• Good IT and communication skills, able to follow procedures and record information.
• Experience in electronics/engineering or technical environment.

Responsibilities

• Testing to relevant procedures and specifications.
• Disassemble/reassemble/clean and prepare customer field returns.
• Re-configure hardware to test products.
• Identify problems related to process, quality and performance.
• Provide feedback to Engineering and Management on issues.
• Provide cross training and support to staff.
• Visually inspect product against criteria and record findings.
• Implement changes in testing processes as required.
• Support other areas of the business as needed.

Role: Test Technician

Location: Wellingborough

Duties of a Test Technician:

• Testing to relevant procedures and specifications using the relevant customer/ software and field configuration.
• Disassemble/reassemble/clean & prepare customer field returns.
• Re-configure hardware to manually test products as necessary.
• Prompt identification of problems regarding process, quality and performance.
• Provide constructive feedback to Engineering and Management on technical and quality issues.
• Practical knowledge and experience of department test equipment.
• Provide cross training and support to other technical and operator staff.
• Visually inspect all types of product in accordance with defined inspection criteria, for defects and ensure that all inspection findings are recorded.
• Implementing changes in testing processes as required.
• Provide support to other areas of the business when required

What we would like from you:

• Experience working within an electronics, engineering or technical environment, with a good understanding of electronic systems.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify faults and investigate technical issues.
• Confident using test and measurement equipment, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters and spectrum analysers.
• Practical hands‑on skills, including the use of hand and power tools, with experience disassembling, testing and reassembling equipment.
• Good IT and communication skills, with the ability to follow technical procedures, accurately record information and work effectively as part of a team.
