What does taking part in the Collins Aerospace Maintenance Apprentice involve?
Aimed at highly motivated and ambitious individuals, eager to be a part of a world leader within the aerospace and defence industry. This scheme is geared towards supporting the career development of apprentices who wish to play an instrumental role in the manufacturing activities of the next generation of civil and military aircraft.
The role is based at Wolverhampton, and home of Actuation Systems at Collins Aerospace. Actuation Systems are the leading experts in fly-by-wire, hydraulic and electro-hydraulic actuation design, providing a complete line of actuation products that enhance aircraft performance and reduce pilot workload.
We are looking to recruit a high calibre apprentice who can support our Works Engineering Department (WED) with fault-finding, repair, service and maintenance of the many on-site test rigs. We believe in the power of intelligence and partnership to guide us into the next era of flight, making the skies and spaces we touch smarter and safer than ever.
The scheme will provide you with opportunities to progress your career in Maintenance and Test Rig Engineering. You will be part of our WED Community and be assigned a Mentor, who will support and guide you throughout your career with us. All of this is designed to complement your career development, fuel your aspirations, and give depth to your training and career.

You will be accountable for test rig availability to production ensuring that the needs of the business and our diverse customer base are met across key facets such as Schedule, Repair Cost and Quality, Reliability to name but a few.
A successful Collins Apprentice is super organised with excellent attention to detail, demonstrates a passion for hands-on engineering, is an expert communicator, and can solve the toughest of challenges all while placing the customer at the centre of everything they do.

Your time will be split between attending In-Comm Training Centre in Telford where you will spend time learning basic engineering skills in Maintenance Engineering, and on-site putting your learning into practice where you will learn from our skilled engineers the basic principles and underpinning knowledge needed for your career.
The apprenticeship lasts for a period of 4 years and is a partnership between Collins Aerospace and In-Comm Training. You will learn key engineering principles at In-Comm which will be vital to your development at Collins Aerospace such as:
By the end of the programme, having completed your functional training and apprenticeship, you will be awarded Level 2 Foundation Competencies, Level 3 Diploma and the Apprenticeship. Don’t worry, the learning doesn’t stop there as following the apprenticeship there will be plenty of opportunities to continue your development and learning.
