Job summary

Oaklands College is seeking a term-time SEND support worker for the Supportive Learning team. You will assist 16–24 year olds with disabilities to meet EHCP targets and develop independent living skills, working with tutors and therapy staff.

You will help with personal care, mobility support, safeguarding, and documentation, ensuring accurate records and proactive communication with carers and tutors. Previous experience is essential and commitment to safeguarding is required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience essential.
• Commitment to safeguarding young people and vulnerable adults.
• A good standard of general education.

Responsibilities

• Set and review SMART targets from EHCP outcomes with session tutors.
• Support students with complex behaviours to reduce incidents and self-regulate.
• Assist students in classroom and practical activities, including SLT support.
• Contribute evidence of progress to EHCP reviews and help devise targets.
• Keep notes on students accurately on college software.
• Keep risk assessments current with personal tutor guidance.
• Administer medication under nursing team direction.
• Support personal care needs, from changing to prompting.
• Assist mobility, physio and daily exercise programmes, including wheelchair pushes.
• Help students develop independent living skills in the community.
• Follow safeguarding policy and pass on concerns promptly.
• Liaise with parents and carers and communicate with class tutors daily.
