Job summary

Cefn Saeson Comprehensive School in Neath is seeking a dedicated Caretaker to manage the day-to-day site operations. The role focuses on keeping buildings and grounds safe, secure, well maintained and presentable, with a practical, reliable approach and a strong commitment to health and safety.

Flexibility is essential, including potential daytime cover during Week 2 and varied summer start/finish times to suit operational needs.

Responsibilities

• Opening and securing the school premises, including responsibility for keys and alarm systems.
• Carrying out daily checks of the school buildings and grounds.
• Undertaking minor repairs and general maintenance.
• Identifying and reporting defects and arranging repairs where appropriate.
• Ensuring the site is safe and appropriately maintained.
• Supporting compliance with health and safety, fire safety and site security procedures.
• Completing routine checks and maintaining appropriate records.
• Monitoring heating, lighting and other building systems.
• Supporting contractors working on the school site.
• Carrying out or arranging basic grounds maintenance.
• Responding appropriately to emergencies, including leaks, power failures, security issues and adverse weather.
• Supporting the safe movement of furniture, equipment and deliveries.
• Preparing rooms and facilities for meetings, events and school activities.
• Ensuring appropriate standards of cleanliness around the site and liaising with cleaning staff where applicable.
• Supporting the school with lettings and out-of-hours activities where required.
• Undertaking appropriate training relevant to the role.
