Job summary

Cheadle Primary School is seeking a passionate Learning Support Assistant to work KS1 on a fixed-term basis during term-time with inset days. The role supports learning programmes, assists with planning, and helps maintain positive behaviour.

The post is 26.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a pro-rata salary of £25,583 FTE. Start date asap, closing date 26 August 2026 and interview on 3 September 2026.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children’s learning in a school setting.
  • NVQ Level 2/3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent.
  • Literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to NVQ Level 2 in English and Maths.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies/codes of practice.
  • Understanding of curriculum matters and ability to contribute to planning and evaluation.
  • Understanding of learning areas, including SEND or Early Years.
  • Understanding of child development and learning processes.
  • Ability to plan actions for pupils at risk of underachievement.
  • Effective use of ICT to support learning.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Good communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide structured support in line with work programmes designed and supervised by teachers.
  • Assist in development and implementation of Education/Behaviour Plans.
  • Maintain classroom discipline using school behaviour strategies.
  • Support pupils to achieve learning goals.
  • Supervise pupils during curriculum activities under teacher supervision.
  • Assist with planning of learning activities.
  • Monitor pupil responses and record achievement/progress as directed.
  • Provide feedback to teachers on pupil progress.
  • Provide general admin support for classroom activities.

Fixed Term Learning Support Assistant – KS1

26.25 hrs (Monday – Friday) – to 17th July 2027 in the first instance

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Learning Support Assistant to join our dedicated team and support the delivery of high-quality learning experiences for our pupils.

About the Role:
  • Provide structured support in accordance with specific work programmes designed and supervised by individual teachers.
  • Support the teacher in the development and implementation of Individual
  • Education/Behaviour Plans.
  • Assist in maintaining classroom discipline through the implementation of the school’s behaviourmanagement strategies.
  • Provide support to pupils to achieve learning goals.
  • Supervise pupils for a particular curriculum activity under the supervision and guidance of a qualified teacher.
  • Assist the teacher with the planning of learning activities.
  • Assist the teacher in monitoring pupils’ responses to learning activities and accurately recordachievement/progress as directed.
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils’ achievement, progress, etc
  • Provide general admin support, for classroom activities e.g. produce worksheets for agreed activities etc.
About You:
  • At least a year of experience working to support children’s learning in a relevant educational setting, experience of speech and language interventions desirable as well as an understanding of RWI phonics.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 for Teaching Assistants (or equivalent).
  • Literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to NVQ Level 2 in English and Maths.
  • Full working knowledge of relevant policies/codes of practice.
  • An understanding of curriculum matters and to be able to contribute effectively to curriculum development, planning, evaluation and implementation.
  • In depth understanding of areas of learning, e.g. English, maths, science, SEND or Early Years.
  • Understanding of principles of child development and learning processes.
  • Ability to plan effective actions for pupils at risk of underachieving.
  • Effective use of ICT to support learning.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills to be able to relate well to a wide range of people.
  • Work constructively as part of a team whilst being able to demonstrate initiative.
  • Good communication skills.
