Job summary

Randstad Education is seeking a skilled teaching assistant with SEN experience to join our Croydon school on a temp-to-perm basis, converting to a permanent role after a 12-week probation.

You will work with teachers to provide structured 1:1 and small group intervention, helping students overcome emotional barriers and re-engage with education in a supportive setting.

Qualifications

• GCSEs English and Maths at grade C/4 or higher.
• Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support.
• Assist teachers with classroom management, lesson prep and activities.
• Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
• Support pupils with emotional self-control and conflict resolution.
• Monitor pupil progress and report achievements or challenges to staff.
• Escort and support pupils during lunch, activities, and trips.

Job description

Our specialist Croydon school is seeking a skilled teaching assistant with SEN experience to join us on a temp-to-perm arrangement, transitioning to a permanent role following a 12-week probationary period.

Salary: £88-£93 per day // Working Hours: 8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday

In this role, you will partner with teachers to provide structured 1:1 and small group intervention, assisting students in overcoming emotional obstacles, re-engaging with their education, and establishing strong relationships within a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide targeted academic and behavioural support to individual pupils or small groups.
• Assist class teachers with classroom management, lesson preparation, and learning activities.
• Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
• Support pupils with emotional self-control and conflict resolution using positive behaviour strategies.
• Monitor student progress and report achievements or challenges to teaching staff.
• Escort and support pupils during lunch breaks, physical activities, and school trips where required.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Qualifications: GCSEs in English and Mathematics (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent standard). Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable.
• Prior experience working with children or young people, preferably within an SEMH, SEND, or alternative provision environment.
• Strong communication skills, patience, emotional resilience, and a proactive approach.
• High levels of empathy, professionalism, and the ability to build trust with challenging or vulnerable pupils.
