Job summary

Randstad Education in Wallington, near Croydon, is seeking an experienced teaching assistant with specialist SEND experience to support students. You will provide 1:1 and small-group assistance, help with lessons, and contribute to a nurturing, inclusive environment, while maintaining consistent routines.

The role offers a daily rate of £88-£93 and hours from 8:30 to 16:30, Monday to Friday, within a supportive school setting.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs in English and Maths at Grade 4/C or higher, Level 2 or 3 TA preferred.
  • Proven background working with children or young people with SEND.
  • Excellent communication, patience, emotional resilience, and proactivity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted academic and behavioural support to individual pupils or small groups.
  • Assist class teachers with classroom management, lesson preparation, and learning activities.
  • Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support pupils with emotional self-control and conflict resolution using positive behaviour strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and report achievements or challenges to teaching staff.
  • Escort and support pupils during lunch breaks, physical activities, and school trips where required.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced teaching assistant with special educational experience to join our specialist school in Wallington, near Croydon.

Salary: £88-£93 per day // Working Hours: 8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday

Working closely alongside teaching staff, you will facilitate tailored 1:1 and small group support aimed at helping students navigate emotional challenges, reconnect with learning, and forge meaningful relationships in a nurturing educational setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide targeted academic and behavioural support to individual pupils or small groups.
  • Assist class teachers with classroom management, lesson preparation, and learning activities.
  • Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support pupils with emotional self-control and conflict resolution using positive behaviour strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and report achievements or challenges to teaching staff.
  • Escort and support pupils during lunch breaks, physical activities, and school trips where required.
Qualifications & Essential Criteria
  • GCSEs in English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or higher (or equivalent standard). Holding a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is preferred by not essential.
  • Proven background working alongside children or young people with SEND.
  • Excellent communication skills, patience, emotional resilience, and a proactive work ethic.
  • A high degree of empathy, strong professionalism, and the capability to establish trust with vulnerable or challenging pupils.
