Job summary

New Appointments Group is recruiting a Machine Operative for a busy manufacturing business near Ashford. This temporary-to-permanent role focuses on machining and preparing materials for manufacturing and welding processes, with hands-on duties and a strong emphasis on health and safety.

You will work from engineering drawings, operate bandsaws, pillar drills, and punch presses, and train across a range of workshop machinery.

Qualifications

• Experience in workshop/manufacturing is advantageous but not essential.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings; training can be provided.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Physically fit and comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.
• Strong awareness of health and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Operate workshop machinery to machine and prepare materials to a high standard.
• Work from engineering drawings and production instructions.
• Ensure products are manufactured accurately and meet quality requirements.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to ensure correct processes are followed.
• Monitor stock levels and assist with material replenishment.
• Carry out daily equipment checks and maintain a clean, organised work area.
• Follow all company health and safety procedures and report any concerns promptly.
• Assist in maintaining efficient production processes and achieving team targets.
• Be willing to train on a variety of workshop machinery including bandsaws, pillar drills, and punch presses.
• Support other departments as required by business needs.
