Telemetry Field Engineer

Hello, we’re Severn Trent and we think water is wonderful. Oh, we’re pretty keen on people too.

24 hours a day, 365 days a year, we serve 4.8 million households and businesses across the heart of the UK. Each cuppa drunk and every toilet flushed is only possible because of the 6,500 brilliant team members working across our patch.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality. We know diverse minds, experiences, and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our customers and communities.

If you want to do more because you care, we’d love to talk to you. There really is something for everyone here.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

In this role as a Telemetry Field Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the functionality and availability of Severn Trent’s 7,000 telemetry outstations, which serve as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the company’s operational assets.

A covering letter confirming you have the necessary qualifications or equivalent is advisable for this role.

Requirements: NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or equivalent.

These outstations are critical to the performance of Severn Trent’s operational ODIs and enable the Operational Control Centres to respond effectively to asset failure alarms. Your primary objective will be to complete field work to ensure that the entire outstation estate remains fully operational and available 100% of the time.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out reactive maintenance to ensure 100% availability (e.g., replacing failed components, addressing communication failures)
  • Performing firmware upgrades remotely and on-site to enhance cybersecurity
  • Implementing password policies across all outstations to ensure compliance with NIS-R
  • Identifying and improving repeat offending sites
  • Asset replacement and upgrades as part of the AMP8 outstation replacement programme (2G and PSTN)

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

Successful candidates will have excellent fault-finding skills and prior knowledge of telemetry outstations, preferably with experience working with WITS-compliant and IP-enabled devices.

Requirements: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

At Severn Trent, you can build a career and be rewarded for it. We offer a range of benefits, award-winning training, and opportunities to contribute positively to the environment and communities.

Our perks include:

  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, with options to buy or sell up to 5 days, and a £400/month car allowance
  • An annual bonus scheme (up to £2,225 based on performance)
  • Leading pension scheme with matched contributions up to 15%
  • Sharesave scheme at discounted rates
  • Dedicated training through our ‘Academy’
  • Family-friendly policies
