Job summary

Primark in Reading, United Kingdom, seeks a Legal Counsel - Technology to act as the primary legal partner for technology, data and AI topics within the business. The role supports digital transformation and outsourcing programs across markets.

The successful candidate will draft and negotiate enterprise tech contracts, advise on data protection and cybersecurity, and help navigate evolving EU/UK regulations while working with external counsel on cross-border matters.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor with 4-6 years PQE (gained in private practice or in-house) with experience advising on technology, digital, or commercial matters.
• Strong drafting and negotiation skills for technology and commercial contracts.
• Exposure to data protection, cybersecurity, or regulatory matters covering both EU and UK regimes.
• Interest in or experience with AI, automation, digital platforms, and data-driven business models.

Responsibilities

• Lead the drafting and negotiation of enterprise technology contracts, including cloud, software, data, digital, and cross-border service arrangements.
• Provide clear legal advice on contracts, disputes, and legislation impacting technology, data, and digital services (including cross-border transfers, cybersecurity, and AI governance).
• Advise on emerging technology matters such as AI use cases, automation, data commercialisation, and evolving EU/UK regulatory frameworks.
