Technician - Safety Product Testing (Maternity Cover FTC)

Kettering

Hours - Monday to Friday 37.5 hrs

Salary - £26k plus benefits

We’re recruiting for a Technician to join an established product testing team in Kettering on a 10–12 month fixed-term contract.

The Role

Working as part of a friendly, multiskilled team, you’ll help test a wide range of safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE), ensuring products meet relevant UK, European and international standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out routine physical testing of PPE using specialist equipment.
• Preparing product samples before testing.
• Recording accurate results on paperwork and electronic systems.
• Operating testing machinery and equipment in line with required procedures.
• Maintaining a clean, organised laboratory and managing sample storage.
• Supporting technical colleagues during customer visits.
• Following established quality procedures and testing standards.
• Working both independently and collaboratively to meet testing schedules.Products tested may include safety gloves, helmets, protective clothing, eyewear, hearing protection, fall protection equipment and other specialist safety products.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is reliable, enthusiastic and comfortable working in a hands‑on, detail-focused environment.

Essential requirements:

• GCSEs at grade C/4 or above in Maths, English and Science.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook.

Desirable experience:

• Previous experience working in a laboratory or testing environment.
• Familiarity with personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Experience using Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
• An understanding of quality management systems.

Previous laboratory experience is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided.
