Job summary

Abingdon and Witney College is seeking an experienced Instructor / Technician to join the Motor Vehicle team. You will train learners in practical skills, support teaching activities, and ensure a safe, well-equipped workshop environment that mirrors industry standards.

Join a busy department that partners with employers, delivering from Entry through Level 3 qualifications. A Level 2 Motor Vehicle qualification and a current driving licence are required, with a passion for mentoring young

Qualifications

  • Must have Level 2 qualification in Motor Vehicle discipline or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills.
  • Willing to work with learners aged 14–19.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver practical training and instruction to learners.
  • Develop learners' technical and workshop skills.
  • Prepare, maintain and repair equipment and resources.
  • Support lecturers and curriculum activities.
  • Supervise learners during practical sessions and work experience.
  • Engage with employers and industry partners to enhance learning.
  • Maintain health and safety, workshop organisation and compliance.
  • Manage stock, inventories and equipment records.
  • Assist with risk assessments and COSHH processes.

Salary: £27,166 - £27,820per annum

Hours per week: 37

Working pattern: Monday to Thursday 7.5 hours, Friday 7 hours

Weeks per Annum: 52 weeks per annum

Abingdon & Witney College is seeking a passionate and industry-experienced Instructor / Technician to join our thriving Motor Vehicle team. Working within our large multi-bay workshops, you will help develop learners' practical skills, support high-quality teaching and learning, and ensure our industry-standard facilities remain a safe and engaging environment for students. Our workshops feature professional-grade equipment and specialist tools designed to recreate a real garage environment, helping students gain the skills employers are looking for.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone currently working in the motor trade who wants to pass on their knowledge and experience to the next generation of technicians, mechanics and automotive professionals.

What you'll be doing
  • Delivering practical training and instruction to young people and adult learners.
  • Developing learners' technical and workshop skills.
  • Preparing, maintaining and repairing equipment and resources.
  • Supporting lecturers and curriculum activities across the department.
  • Supervising learners during practical sessions, enrichment activities and work experience.
  • Working closely with employers and industry partners to enhance learning opportunities.

Our Motor Vehicle provision offers learners the opportunity to study from Entry Level through to Level 3 qualifications in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair. We're looking for someone who has:
  • A Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant Motor Vehicle discipline.
  • Ideally practical industry experience within the automotive sector.
  • Willing to work with young people aged 14-19.
  • Excellent communication and IT skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A current driving licence.
