Job summary

Hull College in Hull is seeking a Technician in Plumbing to support practical learning and deliver high-quality training in a safe workshop environment. You will prepare equipment and materials, manage stock, and assist curriculum delivery across the department.

The role emphasises Health and Safety compliance, collaboration with staff, and opportunities to contribute to curriculum development and CPD. A 37-hour week year-round contract is offered with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade A-C or equivalent.
  • NVQ 2/3 or equivalent in Plumbing.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety policy and procedures.
  • Recent experience in Plumbing subject specialism.
  • Ability to work across age and ability ranges.
  • Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Organise practical workspace areas to maximise space for learning materials.
  • Ensure Health and Safety in practical spaces and compliance with all policies.
  • Ensure equipment and machines meet safety requirements and report actions.
  • Maintain records of student progress and attendance where appropriate.
  • Manage consumables, materials, preparation and stock control.
  • Deliver taster sessions and participate in open events.

Make a Real Impact

As Technician in Plumbing, you will work closely with curriculum leaders, teachers and senior leaders to drive continuous improvement in teaching, learning and assessment. You will support, challenge and coach staff, ensuring high expectations are embedded and that quality processes deliver meaningful impact for learners.

You will:

  • Organisation of practical workspace areas to ensure effective utilisation of space and realistic work simulations and prepare materials for use by students including training aids and learning resources.
  • Overall responsibility for Health and Safety in practical workspace areas and to ensure compliance with all
  • Ensure that practical learning environments, equipment, machines and plant comply with health and safety requirements, identifying necessary actions and reporting through line management
  • Manage a rolling programme of learning space and equipment maintenance including repairs as required and for ensuring relevant checks are made on machine tools, equipment and materials I I in accordance with Health and Safety requirements (i.e. PAT testing, COSHH, etc)
  • Contribute fully to the membership of course teams, attending staff meetings and liaising with staff on individual student's progress and support needs.
  • Assist in the maintenance of records of individual student progress where appropriate, including maintaining records of student attendance and initial assessment.
  • Ensure that consumables, materials, preparation and stock control are available and prepared to the required level in practical learning environments;
  • Follow group financial procedures in ordering consumables and other practical equipment for line manager authorisation and update practical learning environment inventories annually.
  • Deliver taster sessions and attend open events as required.
About You

You will be an experienced and credible education professional with:

  • GCSE (A -C) or equivalent in Maths and English
  • NVQ 2/3 or equivalent in Plumbing
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety policy/procedures
  • Recent experience of subject specialism - Plumbing
  • Able to work across the age and ability range in classroom, workshop and one to one situation
  • Communication skills both oral and written
Desirable
  • First aid qualification or willing to work towards
  • Experience supporting staff CPD requirements
  • Experience organising trips and visits
