Job summary

CAF Rail UK in Manchester is seeking skilled technicians to diagnose faults and repair new trains in a depot environment, ensuring service availability. The role involves root cause analysis across electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems with hands-on use of diagnostic software and test equipment.

The ideal candidate has an NVQ Level 3 in electrical or mechanical engineering and at least 3 years post-apprenticeship experience, plus a valid driving license and willingness to work varied

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • 3 years post-apprenticeship experience in fault detection and repairs.
  • Ability to interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Proficient with diagnostic software and test/measurement equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and flexibility for varying shifts (including weekends, day and night).

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose faults and conduct root cause analysis for an advanced fleet across electrical, pneumatic & hydraulic systems.
  • Perform corrective actions and repairs on new trains in a depot to ensure passenger service availability and reliability.
  • Use electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, test equipment and diagnostic software.

What will be your role in the company?

If you have technical expertise and an analytical mindset, we need you on our team. You'll work with us to diagnose faults and conduct root cause analysis for an advanced fleet across a range of systems (electrical, pneumatic & hydraulic), using a combination of electrical schematics, test equipment, and diagnostic software.

What salary will you be paid for this role?

As a Real Living Wage Employer, we are proud to pay competitively at CAF. For this role you will be offered a salary in the region of £51,000 per annum.

What will make you successful in this position?

To succeed in the role, you have an NVQ Level 3 in electrical/ mechanical engineering (or equivalent) plus 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience under your belt. You have experience in detecting faults and carrying out root cause analysis across multiple systems and are capable of interpreting electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematic diagrams, as well as being proficient in using diagnostic software, and test and measuring equipment. You hold a valid a valid driver's license and have a flexible approach to working varying shifts including weekends, and both day and night shifts.
