Job summary

SPT Labtech in Melbourn, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom, is seeking a Technical Support Engineer to join our site-based team. You will diagnose and resolve instrument issues across our portfolio, providing first- and second-line support by phone, email, remote sessions and video conferencing.

You’ll also support Field Service Engineers with technical guidance and feed insights back to R&D for product improvements.

Qualifications

Experience providing technical support within laboratory automation, scientific instrumentation, medical devices or similar technical environment.
Education equivalent to an engineering HNC/HND or a science degree with automation experience.
Strong analytical and fault-finding skills across hardware and software.
Confident interpreting log files, error codes and diagnostic output.
Working knowledge of Windows operating systems, basic networking and remote access tools.
Experience using a CRM or service management system.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain complex technical information.

Responsibilities

Provide first and second-line technical support via telephone, email, remote desktop and video conferencing.
Diagnose hardware, software and application issues using structured troubleshooting.
Resolve customer issues remotely to minimise instrument downtime.
Support Field Service Engineers with technical advice before, during and after visits.
Interpret instrument logs and diagnostic data to identify root causes.
Document interactions and maintain CRM/service records.
Collaborate with Engineering and R&D on product issues and improvements.
