Job summary

SPT Labtech in Melbourn, near Cambridge, UK, is seeking a mechanically-focused engineer to maintain and advance state-of-the-art laboratory systems. You will own mechanical design decisions and coordinate with electronics, firmware, and software teams to ensure robust, manufacturable solutions.

You will lead design changes, drive design for manufacturability, and support field issues from root cause through deployed fixes.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s advantageous
• Experience in scientific instrumentation or similar hardware
• Strong foundation in mechanism design and thermal management
• Ability to engage with electronics and software teams
• Experience leading work packages and projects
• Proficiency in 3D CAD within a PDM environment

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve field and manufacturing issues from root cause to solution
• Lead design changes and product improvements from concept to production handover
• Collaborate across electronics, firmware, software, manufacturing and quality teams
• Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and DFM/DFS
• Support service and applications teams with guidance on complex issues
• Identify and champion long-term improvement opportunities
