Job summary

Arts Council England in Buxton is seeking a Technical Stage Manager to support the Learning & Engagement team across projects, events, and productions. You will provide technical input, run the Technical Youth Theatre for ages 13-19, and collaborate with visiting companies and departments to ensure smooth delivery.

The role requires experience in theatre/arts, knowledge of lighting, sound, and video equipment, and strong communication and organisational skills.

Qualifications

• Two years of industry or university/college experience in theatre or the arts.
• Experience with ETC Eos Lighting Consoles.
• A good working knowledge of sound, video, and lighting equipment.
• Experience of maintaining high standards of technical provision.
• Awareness of Health & Safety and effective working methods.
• Excellent problem solving and decision making.
• Interest in and enthusiasm for the arts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a good standard of spoken and written English.
• Good ICT skills.
• A desire to train others in technical theatre skills and understanding.
• Excellent organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail and ability to manage workloads to meet non-negotiable deadlines.
• Enthusiasm and calmness - to lead by example.
• A team player who is personable, diplomatic, and has the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Department: Learning & Engagement; Reporting to: Head of Production & Head of Creative Learning & Engagement.
• The postholder will support the Learning & Engagement team technically and deliver high-quality productions and events.
• Plan, deliver, and evaluate technical aspects of Work Experience and Summer School.
• Work with creative teams, visiting companies, and other departments to ensure smooth production flow.
• Plan and deliver Technical Theatre sessions for schools and the community.
• Production manage and provide technical support for touring shows.
• Lead by example and manage workloads to meet deadlines.
• Ensure health and safety policies are observed and followed on site.
