Job description

Job Title: Technical Support Engineer (Electrical Bias)

Location:

Office based role in Milton Keynes

Hours:

37.5 hours a week, 08:30~16:45, Monday to Thursday and 08:30~15:30, Friday

Job Type:

Permanent, full time

The Role:

SMC is looking to recruit an individual with an electrical bias. Experience with serial interface, PLCs, or electric drives would be advantageous. The role involves providing support to customers and the sales team on technical matters, with a focus on commercial and market awareness of SMC products. The role also includes supporting sales growth through training and proactive promotion of existing and new products.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Support customer inquiries via phone and email
  2. Process requests for special products and variations
  3. Analyze, check, and report on customer product returns
  4. Conduct market and competitor product analysis
  5. Support sales team with customer visits and application development
  6. Manage products including training, new product introduction, and supersession of discontinued ranges
Essential Education, Skills, and Experience:
  1. Degree, HNC, or HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  2. Proficient communication skills via telephone and email with internal and external customers
  3. Methodical problem-solving skills, organized with clear record-keeping
  4. Ability to present technical subjects clearly and effectively, face-to-face and via webinar
  5. Experience working within an engineering environment
  6. Hands-on testing and diagnostic experience
  7. Experience managing multiple projects, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
  8. Automation systems or system design experience
  9. Previous experience in a Technical Sales Support or applications role
