Job description

Google Technical Program Manager, Subsea Marine Specialist in London, United Kingdom

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  2. 5 years of experience in program management.
  3. 3 years of experience of cable route engineering, survey and marine installation methods and technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience with vendor management and logistics, and in the use and customization of project management tools.
  2. Experience in networking with knowledge in network infrastructure planning, including fiber optic systems or submarine cables.
  3. Experience working on cable ships or survey vessels.
  4. Knowledge of cable lay dynamics, with the ability to analyze cable installation data to identify anomalies and assess installation quality.
  5. Knowledge of Geographic Information System (GIS) systems or Makai products (e.g., MakaiPlan, MakaiPlan Pro, and MakaiLay).

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you’ll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You’ll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

The Technical Program Management team provides the technical and commercial knowledge to manage new build projects. In this role, you will act as the SME for the marine survey and installation aspects of subsea cable projects, while also contributing to the broader work of the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support subsea cable projects with marine engineering analyses, technical guidance, and recommendations.
  2. Evaluate cable route designs by leading route working groups, analysis of survey data and fault histories, and conduct risk assessments.
  3. Review marine installation procedures to ensure quality and cost-effective delivery.
  4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and assume project management responsibilities for complete subsea cable systems.
  5. Provide thought leadership and forward-looking recommendations for survey and installation technologies, train other team members on marine engineering matters.
