Job description

Location: London, hybrid. 1 to 2 days per week in the office, flexible working around that

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Salary: £60,000 to £80,000 depending on experience

Hours: UK working hours, with daily overlap with our Dubai team (UAE is 3 hours ahead of the UK)

Probation: 6 months

About the role

As a Technical Product Manager at HUKM, you will lead the development and delivery of backend and API-driven products. You will manage development pods, translate business requirements into technical solutions, and drive execution through agile delivery.

This is a hands-on technical product role. You will be close enough to the architecture to make real trade‑off calls with engineering, and close enough to the client to hold the commercial line on what gets built and why.

What you will be doing
  • Work with clients and stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical product specifications
  • Lead and manage development pods of 15 to 20 engineers, ensuring effective collaboration and delivery
  • Define product roadmaps, prioritise features, and maintain product backlogs for backend and API initiatives
  • Design and document API specifications, data models, and system architecture alongside engineering teams
  • Run sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
  • Make technical trade‑off decisions balancing business value, technical debt, and engineering constraints
  • Review technical specifications, API designs, and architecture proposals against product goals
  • Collaborate with frontend teams, DevOps, and other stakeholders to ensure clean integration and delivery
  • Define and track product metrics, KPIs, and success criteria for backend systems and APIs
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and communicate progress, technical challenges, and roadmap changes
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, blockers, and dependencies across multiple delivery streams
  • Coach and mentor within the pods to build a culture of continuous improvement
What we are looking for
  • 2 to 3 years in technical product management, ideally on backend systems and APIs
  • Previous hands‑on experience as a backend developer or software engineer
  • Experience leading agile delivery teams or development pods
  • Strong grasp of RESTful API design, GraphQL, API versioning, and microservices architecture
  • Working knowledge of backend technologies such as Node.js, Python, Java, or .NET
  • Understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases and data modelling
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and CI/CD, DevOps, and release practices
  • Knowledge of authentication and authorisation protocols including OAuth2, JWT, and API security best practice
  • Proficiency with API documentation tools such as Swagger/OpenAPI or Postman
  • Experience with agile tooling such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or Linear
  • Strong technical writing: PRDs, technical specifications, and API documentation
  • Comfortable defining and tracking product metrics and KPIs, including A/B testing
  • Able to explain complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders
  • Able to prioritise competing demands and influence without direct authority
Nice to have
  • Product management certification such as CSPO or Pragmatic Institute
  • Experience with API gateways such as Kong, Apigee, or AWS API Gateway
  • Knowledge of event‑driven architecture and message queues such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS
  • Experience with API monetisation and developer portal management
  • Containerisation and orchestration experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with observability tooling such as Datadog, New Relic, or Grafana
  • Background in financial services, fintech, or another regulated industry
How we work

You will be based in London with 1 to 2 days a week in the office and flexible working around that. Our teams span the UK and Dubai, so a reliable daily overlap with the Dubai team matters more to us than fixed desk hours.

We work in diverse teams with an inclusive culture where people are recognised for their contribution.
