Job summary

Avara Foods Ltd is seeking a Technical Operative for Westbury Mill to support manufacturing processes, ensuring safety, quality, hygiene and production standards are met in a fast-paced environment.

You will work in an intensive milling setting, primarily based in the control room but with mill visits to ensure compliant, efficient operations. The role includes collecting samples, maintaining traceability, and coordinating with material and transport teams.

Qualifications

• Good understanding of manufacturing processes.
• Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
• First Aid training.
• Forklift licence.
• HACCP Level 2.
• Basic Health & Safety knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Collect and test samples to ensure feed meets nutritional and quality standards
• Complete production paperwork and maintain full traceability records
• Monitor stock levels to maximise efficiency and control costs
• Minimise downtime and ensure effective use of production time
• Liaise with raw material and transport teams to optimise production runs
• Conduct daily PDI checks and monitor feed quality
• Handle supplement bags up to 26kg when required
• Ensure the mill operates safely and compliantly
• Maintain cleaning schedules and hygiene standards
• Adhere to Health & Safety, Food Safety, Environmental, and Biosecurity procedures
• Report hazards, near misses, and incidents
• Carry out other reasonable duties within the scope of the role

We are a leading supplier of chicken, turkey and duck products into an impressive range of customers in the UK retail and food service sectors. We are a fully integrated business controlling the whole product supply chain, which include feed mills, farms, hatcheries and factories with associated transport and logistics functions that employ more than 6000 people.

Technical Operative

Location:Westbury Mill
Salary: £32,248 per annum
Hours:Rotating 3-week shift pattern

Shift Pattern:
Week 1: Monday to Friday – 07:00 to 15:00
Week 2: Monday to Friday – 15:00 to 23:00
Week 3: Sunday to Thursday – 23:00 to 07:00

The Role

We are looking for a Technical Operative to join our team at Westbury Mill. Working alongside the Control Room Lead, you will support the operation and management of manufacturing processes to ensure safety, quality, hygiene, and production standards are consistently achieved.

This is a key role within a fast-paced animal feed manufacturing environment, ensuring agreed physical and nutritional specifications are met while maintaining operational efficiency.

Operating Environment

• Intensive milling environment (noisy and dusty at times)
• Processing raw materials into animal feed
• Primarily control room based, with regular navigation of the mill to ensure compliant and efficient operations

Full training will be provided. However, the following would be advantageous:
