Job summary

Avara Foods Ltd. is seeking a Technical Operative to join the Westbury Mill team. You will support the operation and management of manufacturing processes to ensure safety, quality, hygiene, and production standards are consistently achieved.

Working in a fast-paced animal feed environment, you will help meet nutritional specifications while maintaining operational efficiency. Rotating 3-week shift pattern and full training are provided.

Qualifications

• Good understanding of manufacturing processes.
• Basic Health & Safety knowledge.
• HACCP Level 2 is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Collect and test samples to ensure feed meets nutritional and quality standards.
• Complete production paperwork and maintain full traceability records.
• Monitor stock levels to maximise efficiency and control costs.
• Minimise downtime and ensure effective use of production time.
• Liaise with raw material and transport teams to optimise production runs.
• Carry out daily checks and monitor feed quality.

Technical Operative

Location: Westbury Mill

Salary: £32,248 per annum

Hours: Rotating 3-week shift pattern

Shift Pattern

• Week 1: Monday to Friday - 07:00 to 15:00
• Week 2: Monday to Friday - 15:00 to 23:00
• Week 3: Sunday to Thursday - 23:00 to 07:00

The Role

We are looking for a Technical Operative to join our team at Westbury Mill. Working alongside the Control Room Lead, you will support the operation and management of manufacturing processes to ensure safety, quality, hygiene, and production standards are consistently achieved.

This is a key role within a fast-paced animal feed manufacturing environment, ensuring agreed physical and nutritional specifications are met while maintaining operational efficiency.

Operating Environment

• Intensive milling environment (noisy and dusty at times)
• Processing raw materials into animal feed
• Primarily control room based, with regular navigation of the mill to ensure compliant and efficient operations

Key Responsibilities

• Collect and test samples to ensure feed meets nutritional and quality standards
• Complete production paperwork and maintain full traceability records
• Monitor stock levels to maximise efficiency and control costs
• Minimise downtime and ensure effective use of production time
• Liaise with raw material and transport teams to optimise production runs
• Conduct daily PDI checks and monitor feed quality
• Handle supplement bags up to 26kg when required
• Ensure the mill operates safely and compliantly
• Maintain cleaning schedules and hygiene standards
• Adhere to Health & Safety, Food Safety, Environmental, and Biosecurity procedures
• Report hazards, near misses, and incidents
• Carry out other reasonable duties within the scope of the role

What We’re Looking For

Full training will be provided. However, the following would be advantageous:

Skills & Experience (Desirable)

• Good understanding of manufacturing processes
• Basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills
• First Aid training
• Forklift licence
• HACCP Level 2
• Basic Health & Safety knowledge
