Job summary

Russell Taylor Group are recruiting an experienced Technical Manager to lead NDT activities at our Deeside site. You will own technical assurance, deliver NDT projects, and support clients, with a 50/50 split between hands-on technical leadership and commercial support.

You will lead a team of NDT technicians, develop procedures, conduct audits, ensure ISO/IEC 17020 compliance, and contribute to bids and tenders. PCN Level 2 Ultrasonics and Phased Array/TOFD are required; Level 3 is desirable.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical NDT background with significant industry experience.
  • PCN Level 2 in Ultrasonics (UT).
  • PCN Level 2 in Phased Array or TOFD; Level 3 desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and support across NDT site services.
  • Ensure NDT projects are technically compliant, well-engineered and delivered to the required standards.
  • Review and develop NDT procedures and techniques.
  • Carry out technical audits both on and off site.
  • Review NDT personnel qualifications, procedures and technical competence.
  • Oversee the quality and acceptance of NDT inspection results and reports.
  • Provide specialist technical advice to resolve complex NDT issues.
  • Maintain technical compliance with ISO/IEC 17020, UKAS and relevant client requirements.
  • Support NDT competence assurance and authorisation of technicians.
  • Work closely with clients to ensure inspection techniques and procedures meet project requirements.
  • Prepare technical responses, estimates and documentation for tenders and quotations.
  • Support the commercial team throughout the tender process and attend technical presentations where required.
  • Identify opportunities for continual improvement across technical processes and procedures.
  • Develop and support training and development programmes for the NDT team.
  • Provide day-to-day technical guidance and leadership to technicians and contractors.
  • Work collaboratively with Operations and EHSQ to ensure safe, compliant and effective project delivery.

We are recruiting for an experienced Technical Manager to join an established NDT specialist supporting major clients

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an experienced NDT professional who enjoys being the technical point of reference, supporting clients and projects, developing procedures and helping drive technical standards across a growing site services team.

The Role

You will take ownership of the technical assurance and delivery of NDT activities, working closely with the Managing Director, Operations and EHSQ Managers.

The role has a 50/50 split between technical assurance and commercial support, giving you the opportunity to combine your technical expertise with client-facing and business development activity.

You will provide technical leadership to a team of around NDT Technicians alongside contractors during busier periods.

The Person
  • Strong technical NDT background with significant industry experience.
  • PCN Level 2 in Ultrasonics (UT).
  • PCN Level 2 in Phased Array or TOFD, or strong practical experience in either technique with the ability to achieve the relevant qualification.
  • Strong understanding of BS EN ISO/IEC 17020:2012 and NDT quality/competence requirements.
  • Experience developing or reviewing NDT procedures and techniques.
  • Experience providing technical assurance within an NDT environment.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • PCN Level 3 is desirable but not essential. Experienced PCN Level 2 professionals who are not currently working towards Level 3 will still be considered.
  • We are particularly interested in candidates with strong technical NDT expertise. Previous management or team leadership experience is beneficial, but technical capability is the priority.
