The Opportunity

Wolviston Management Services are delighted to be supporting our client, a highly respected and established organisation specialising in advanced manufacturing, in the recruitment of an experienced NDT Inspector to join their Quality team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an innovative and forward-thinking manufacturing business, recognised for delivering complex, high-performance components and solutions for technically demanding applications. Working within a precision-driven manufacturing environment, you will play a key role in ensuring the structural integrity, quality and compliance of advanced composite products through specialist Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), inspection and metrology activities. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience in ultrasonic testing, composite inspection and dimensional measurement, ideally gained within aerospace, defence or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.

The Role

As NDT Inspector, you will be responsible for carrying out specialist Non-Destructive Testing and metrology activities to ensure manufactured products meet customer specifications, quality requirements and relevant industry standards. Reporting to the Senior Inspector, you will support quality assurance activities throughout the manufacturing process, with a particular focus on ultrasonic inspection, dimensional measurement and technical scanning. You will work closely with Production, Engineering and Quality teams to identify and resolve quality concerns, maintain accurate inspection documentation and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. This is a hands‑on technical position requiring excellent attention to detail, strong knowledge of NDT processes and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of product quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities
Non-Destructive Testing & Inspection
  • Carry out ultrasonic NDT inspections of composite components and assemblies in accordance with approved techniques and procedures.
  • Conduct visual and manual dimensional inspections to verify compliance with engineering specifications.
  • Perform ultrasonic bond testing to assess product integrity and identify potential defects.
  • Undertake NDT and scanning activities throughout the manufacturing process as required.
  • Ensure all inspection activities comply with internal procedures, customer requirements and relevant quality standards.
  • Identify, document and communicate inspection findings and potential non-conformances.
  • Support the investigation and resolution of NDT-related quality issues.
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, consistency and traceability throughout all inspection activities.
Metrology & Technical Measurement
  • Carry out technical measurement activities using specialist inspection equipment, including Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and Creaform 3D scanning systems.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications in accordance with BS 8888 requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to dimensional inspection activities.
  • Support the introduction and development of new measurement techniques and inspection methodologies.
  • Work with the NDT Responsible Level 3 and Head of Quality to obtain approval for new inspection methods where required.
  • Ensure measuring equipment and inspection tools are used and maintained safely and correctly.
Quality Documentation & Compliance
  • Prepare and maintain accurate NDT inspection reports, job cards and associated quality documentation.
  • Develop and write NDT technique sheets for review and approval by the Responsible Level 3.
  • Ensure all NDT activities are completed in accordance with approved processes and relevant customer specifications.
  • Maintain and manage NDT inspection equipment, reference pieces, consumables and associated inspection assets.
  • Support quality audits, accreditation activities and ongoing regulatory compliance.
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments to investigate and resolve inspection or quality concerns.
Training & Continuous Improvement
  • Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues on NDT processes and inspection activities.
  • Assist with the training and development of less experienced team members.
  • Verify and countersign inspection activities undertaken by colleagues during training, within the permitted scope of certification and authorisation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve inspection processes, product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the Quality and Manufacturing teams.
  • Maintain and develop technical knowledge of NDT techniques, inspection technologies and industry requirements.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, quality and teamwork throughout the organisation.
What We’re Looking For
  • EN4179 or equivalent Level 2 Ultrasonic NDT certification, with PCN registration preferred.
  • Qualification in ultrasonic bond testing.
  • Previous experience carrying out NDT inspections within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience inspecting composite materials and components.
  • Strong understanding of ultrasonic inspection techniques and associated testing procedures.
  • Experience developing and writing NDT technique sheets.
  • Knowledge of metrology and dimensional inspection processes.
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings in accordance with BS 8888.
  • Experience using inspection and measurement equipment, including CMM and 3D scanning technology.
  • Experience working within a structured, process-driven manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider manufacturing team.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
