Job summary

JAM Recruitment Ltd is assisting a Dudley-based foundry and heavy engineering manufacturer recruiting a Technical Manager. You will lead the engineering and process-improvement activities, drive automation projects and ensure quality and safety across the site.

Reporting to Manufacturing Director, you will manage technical teams, support NPI, and deliver continuous improvement while shaping long-term growth in a modern, technology-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership in technical/Foundry management.
• Experience in heavy engineering or metals manufacturing environments.
• Experience with process improvement, yield optimisation and scrap reduction.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the Technical Department.

• Lead MAGMASOFT simulation, metrology and 3D scanning activities.
• Manage tooling control, maintenance and supplier relationships.
• Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and processes.

• Coordinate NPI projects and provide technical support for quotations.
• Liaise with customers, suppliers and subcontractors on technical matters.
• Monitor KPI performance and deliver continuous improvement projects.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manufacturing Director, you will drive quality improvements, reduce scrap, improve yield, support new product introduction, and lead a team responsible for delivering technical excellence across the foundry. Key Responsibilities

• Manage process control systems, testing and calibration activities.
• Monitor KPI performance and deliver continuous improvement projects.

Leadership Responsibilities

• Manage, mentor and develop Technical, Engineering and Laboratory teams.
• Support recruitment, training, performance reviews and succession planning.
• Maintain skills matrices and improve workforce flexibility.

What We''re Looking For

• Proven experience in a Technical Manager, Foundry Manager, Senior Process Engineer, Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Metallurgical Manager or similar leadership role.
• Strong background within foundry, castings, heavy engineering or metals manufacturing environments.
• Experience of process improvement, yield optimisation and scrap reduction programmes.
• Knowledge of casting simulation software such as MAGMASOFT .
• Experience managing technical teams and driving operational performance.
• Understanding of root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience supporting new product introduction and customer-facing technical activities.
• Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• A proactive and hands‑on approach with the ability to drive positive change.
