Technical Instructor

We are seeking an experienced and engaging Technical Instructor to design and deliver high-quality maintenance training for customers using advanced aviation simulation devices.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically capable instructor from an aviation, engineering, military or safety-critical environment who enjoys making complex systems understandable. You will deliver customer-focused training both at the Crawley training centre and at customer sites internationally, helping customers to safely operate, maintain and troubleshoot sophisticated simulator equipment.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Customer Support, you will be responsible for developing, tailoring and delivering maintenance training that enables customers to understand and maintain their simulation devices effectively.

You will use the latest approved baseline courseware and eLearning content, adapting material to reflect customer-specific options, deviations and configurations. You will also contribute to the creation, publication and validation of technical content for an electronic documentation facility, supporting corrective and preventative maintenance of simulator devices.

This role requires someone who can work independently, manage their own workload, identify technical issues early and communicate potential risks to schedules, resources or budgets before they become critical.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, tailor and deliver innovative, customer-focused technical maintenance training.


• Deliver training at the Crawley training centre and customer locations in the UK and overseas.


• Review and adapt baseline training materials, eLearning content and courseware to reflect customer-specific simulator configurations and requirements.


• Prepare customer-specific training materials for validation before delivery.


• Analyse aircraft, equipment and wiring drawings to support training development and technical problem-solving.


• Act as a technical authority for an assigned system, product area or subject-matter specialism.


• Create, review, validate and publish technical content for electronic customer documentation.


• Develop course and documentation content in parallel where possible, maximising the reuse of drawings, images and technical information.


• Maintain accurate lesson-plan diaries, recording technical, behavioural and cultural matters arising during training courses.


• Identify technical issues, delivery risks, schedule impacts and resource constraints, escalating them promptly and supporting effective resolution.


• Share technical expertise with the wider instructional team and contribute to continuous improvement of training, documentation and departmental processes.


• Work autonomously, plan and prioritise activity effectively, and deliver agreed outputs within budget and timescale requirements.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Qualified civilian or military instructor with at least two years’ experience delivering effective technical instruction.


• A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in an engineering, scientific, mathematical or related technical discipline; alternatively, at least four years’ relevant industry experience.


• At least two years’ technical experience within the relevant engineering, aviation, maintenance or systems discipline.


• Strong technical knowledge, analytical ability and practical problem-solving skills.


• Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.


• Ability to explain complex technical information clearly and confidently to different audiences.


• Experience analysing technical documentation, including equipment, aircraft or wiring drawings.


• Ability to plan and manage work independently while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.


• Willingness to work shifts or unsociable hours when required.


• Willingness and ability to travel internationally to customer and partner sites.

Desirable Experience

• Experience of aviation, aircraft maintenance, flight simulation, aerospace, defence or other safety-critical engineering environments.


• Knowledge of simulator maintenance, training devices, avionics, electrical/electronic systems, mechanical systems or aircraft systems.


• Experience developing courseware, lesson plans, eLearning material, technical manuals or customer-facing technical documentation.


• Familiarity with computer hardware and Windows and/or Linux operating systems.


• Experience working with international customers and delivering training across different cultures and languages.


• Knowledge of corrective and preventative maintenance practices.
