Job summary

Project Centre in London seeks a Transport Planning & Development Technical Director to lead and grow the TP&D teams, strengthen client relationships, and shape future service offerings. The role combines technical input with strategic vision to drive growth and deliver high-quality solutions for clients across the UK.

You will manage major commissions, collaborate with multiple disciplines, and mentor teams while pursuing innovative, sustainable outcomes in line with professional standards.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in transport planning and development across built environment, infrastructure and regeneration sectors.
• Experience in a Technical Director role or as an established Associate Director ready to take the next step.
• Proven ability to develop profitable service offerings and win work with private-sector developers and local authorities.
• Strong strategic leadership and business management skills, including setting and implementing business plans.
• Experience directing major, complex projects and contracts with strategic insight.
• Ability to translate complex policy and technical issues into clear, commercially viable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Manage transport planning commissions from inception to completion with sustainable, inclusive design.
• Provide hands-on design input and technical direction, reviewing drawings, reports and contracts.
• Collaborate with urban design, highways, drainage, ecology, and other engineering disciplines.
• Oversee project scope, fees, budgets, programmes, risks and change to ensure profitable delivery.
• Allocate workload to team members and support their professional development.
• Develop trusted client relationships and identify new opportunities for bids and proposals.
