Job summary

iO Associates is seeking a Technical Director – Mechanical Engineering to provide technical leadership across national Water Sector projects. This senior role combines technical depth, client engagement and business growth, with UK-wide scope and a hybrid working pattern in London and the South East.

You will act as a recognised technical authority, overseeing complex multidisciplinary delivery, guiding bids and proposals, and mentoring teams to raise technical standards.

Qualifications

• Chartered Mechanical Engineer with senior leadership experience.
• Experience in UK Water Sector (water/wastewater treatment, pumping).
• Knowledge of pumps, blowers, screens and chemical dosing systems; UK standards.
• Commercial awareness with client engagement and bids.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across the national Mechanical Engineering practice.
• Oversee complex multidisciplinary projects and resolve technical issues.
• Lead input into bids and proposals, build client relationships and drive growth.
• Grow Mechanical Engineering capability and mentor teams.
