Job description

Location: Cirencester/ Witney (GL7 6DA / OX28 5JH) Hours: 36 per week, Monday to Friday

We’re looking for a motivated and proactive Technical Coordinator, Mechanical & Electrical, to join our Thames Valley North Wastewater Operations team. This is an exciting chance to play a key role across the Cotswolds, Cherwell and Oxford areas, working predominantly in the field and closely with a supportive and experienced operations team.

As a Technical Coordinator, you’ll work side‑by‑side with local Performance Managers and a diverse team of technicians—including mechanical, electrical and ICA specialists. You’ll take ownership of delivering planned and reactive maintenance, coordinating both internal field teams and external contractors.

Your focus will be on ensuring our wastewater treatment sites achieve strong plant availability, meet operational KPIs and deliver excellent service for our customers—all while keeping activities within budget.

What will you be doing as a Technical Coordinator?
  • You will be responsible for the management of the pre‑requisites within SAP (materials, permits, resources and services) for all complex jobs for planned and reactive work across maintenance and operations.
  • Use technical expertise and data captured from the field to design operationally critical jobs.
  • Highlight key operational risks across the area and present these to obtain funding.
  • Maintain the availability of plant and equipment and optimise treatment process performance.
  • Develop strong collaborative relationships with other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide expert advice on technical issues and generate solutions to operational risks.
  • Obtain quotes, order materials and 3rd party services through our framework contractors.
  • Ensure all aspects of Health and Safety are managed correctly, through safe system of work approval, reviewing RAMS, permitting and site audits.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring that our legal statutory maintenance requirements are met. These will include items such as lifting equipment, pressure vessels and generators.
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you need are:
  • Completed a time‑served apprenticeship or hold a recognised technical qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven, relevant experience as a Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Technician or ICA Technician, with a strong understanding of plant, equipment, and operational processes. (Preferably experience working within Water or Wastewater Treatment, or a comparable industrial environment.)
  • Highly logical - able to decide on and build the dependencies between tasks.
  • Collaborative – able to work closely with Planners, Field Performance Managers, suppliers, and 3rd parties.
  • Technically experienced with a good understanding of how to maintain assets.
  • Good local knowledge of how important an asset is to a site and how it relates to other assets.
  • Meticulous at documenting the finer details of what needs to take place.
  • Able to manage a large workload of numerous jobs in parallel.
  • Competent with IT systems (will use SAP extensively) as well as effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues relevant to the industry; ideally you will be IOSH or equivalent qualified.
  • A full UK driving licence is essential for this position as the role involves travelling around our sites.
What’s in it for you?
  • Offering a salary up to £47,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
  • Company Van.
  • Annual Leave - 26 days holiday per year, increasing to 30 with the length of service (plus bank holidays).
  • Generous Paternity Leave, including 4 weeks paid and an optional 2 weeks unpaid.
  • Enhanced Maternity Leave, 26 weeks full pay and 13 weeks half pay!
  • Generous Pension Scheme through AON.
  • Access to lots of benefits to help you take care of yourself and your family’s health and wellbeing, and your finances – from annual health MOTS and access to physiotherapy and counselling, to Cycle to Work schemes, shopping vouchers and life assurance.
