Job summary

STRABAG is seeking a Technical Controlling professional who blends on-site construction experience with financial governance to drive project performance.

The role acts as the bridge between Site Operations and the Business Unit, applying the Common Project Standards (CPS) and iTWO data to improve estimates, reporting and tender quality. You will retain core QS or engineering skills while expanding into strategic analysis, cost control, and process improvement across UK projects.

Qualifications

• Experience on site with understanding of how projects are built and managed.
• Process-driven but practical; able to apply CPS in real site challenges.
• Currently a Quantity Surveyor or Site Engineer in an engineering main contractor.
• Aim to move into strategic analysis and reporting.
• Strong MS-Office proficiency.
• Familiarity with cost estimation software, e.g. iTWO.

Responsibilities

• Monitor Costs, Revenue/Results, Productivity and Budgets in real-time.
• Interface between Project Manager and Business Unit, translating site activities into financial data.
• Forecast deviations from schedule and cost forecasts using engineering/QS judgment.
• Ensure Working Budget and Estimates in iTWO reflect reality.
• Drive the Feedback Loop to share lessons with Pre-Construction for tenders.

About The Role

The Technical Controlling role is a specific and crucial role established within the Strabag Group globally. Technical Controlling is a result‑driven, internally focused project management system. It combines typically UK Quantity Surveying and Cost Engineering responsibilities to ensure compliance, transparency, and alignment with Group‑wide processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Operational Control: Use your technical/commercial background to monitor Costs, Revenue / Results, Productivity, and Budgets in real‑time, preventing issues before they impact the bottom line.
• The "Bridge": Act as the interface between the Project Manager and the Business Unit, translating site activities into accurate financial data.
• Forecasting: Proactively identify deviations from the schedule and cost forecasts using your engineering/QS judgment.
• System Integrity: Ensure the accuracy of the Working Budget and Estimates within iTWO, ensuring the data reflects reality.
• Process Champion: Drive the "Feedback Loop", capturing lessons learned from the site and feeding them back to Pre‑Construction to improve future tenders.

Qualifications

• Experience: Proven experience on site with a strong understanding of how projects are built and managed.
• Mindset: You are "Process-Driven" but "Practical". You understand the importance of the CPS but know how to apply it to real site challenges.
• Current Role: A Quantity Surveyor or Site Engineer currently working within an engineering main contractor
• Ambition: You want to move beyond day‑to‑day transactional work and into strategic analysis and reporting.
• HND/Degree qualification in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related subject.
• Competent in the use of MS-Office products.
• An understanding of cost estimating software, ideally iTWO (training will be available).
• Interested in commercial processes.
• Independent, analytical and result‑oriented way of thinking and acting.
• Committed to professional delivery with accuracy and detail.
• Willingness to work on a construction site.
