Job description

Technical Claims Manager (Project Manager) – Fire & Flood Restoration (264cm) – Redruth, Cornwall – supporting depots in Devon, Berkshire and the Midlands – £30,000 – £35,000 per annum

Driving Licence: Essential

DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS RECRUITMENT CONSULTANCY, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO REPRESENT INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EX MILITARY.

Overview

Our client is a specialist fire and flood restoration business helping homeowners and organisations recover following unexpected property damage.

They are seeking a highly organised and customer-focused Technical Claims Manager to join their team in Redruth, Cornwall.

This is essentially a project management and customer leadership role within a specialist technical environment. You will take ownership of insurance claims from beginning to end, coordinating customers, insurers, loss adjusters, technical teams and field-based restoration personnel to achieve the best possible outcome.

You’ll typically be responsible for 60–100 live claims at any one time, requiring excellent organisation, sound judgement and the confidence to make decisions across a busy and constantly changing portfolio.

Crucially, previous insurance or construction experience is not required. Technical training will be provided, making this a potentially excellent opportunity for experienced ex-military personnel and candidates from operations, logistics, project management and other demanding coordination roles.

The Role

As Technical Claims Manager, you will own the claim, customer relationship and commercial outcome.

You’ll take responsibility for new insurance claims from start to finish, guiding customers and professional stakeholders through the restoration process with confidence, professionalism and care.

You won’t be working alone. Technical Claims Handlers will run projects under your supervision and consultation, while Restoration Technicians undertake the practical restoration work in the field with your guidance.

The role therefore requires someone capable of keeping numerous moving parts under control while building relationships, solving problems and making well-judged decisions under pressure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of new insurance claims from initial instruction through to completion.
  • Act as the principal point of contact for customers, including both vulnerable individuals and high-profile clients.
  • Build effective professional relationships with insurers, loss adjusters, brokers and technical teams.
  • Quickly assess customer requirements and interpret complex information, including building damage reports and insurance policies.
  • Work with field-based teams to develop appropriate scopes of work.
  • Help prevent further property damage while controlling claim costs and delivering excellent customer outcomes.
  • Adapt plans in response to changing priorities or insurer decisions.
  • Keep projects progressing effectively and within budget.
  • Monitor restoration progress and coordinate site visits.
  • Maintain clear, professional communication between all parties throughout the claim.
What We’re Looking For
  • A natural relationship-builder who is comfortable working with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Confident dealing with customers as well as professional stakeholders such as insurers, loss adjusters and brokers.
  • Decisive and comfortable making well-reasoned decisions.
  • Able to interpret technical information and act quickly in a changing environment.
  • A proactive problem-solver focused on delivering excellent customer service rather than simply processing paperwork.
  • An effective communicator who listens well, negotiates confidently and supports colleagues and customers through challenging situations.
  • Comfortable using technology to organise your workload and improve results.
  • Highly responsive, professional and collaborative in your approach.
No Previous Industry Experience Required

You do not need a background in insurance or construction.

The client will provide training in the technical aspects of the position, including:

  • Drying science
  • Insurance policy detail
  • Building fabric

What matters is that you have previously held real accountability for a large number of moving parts simultaneously and are accustomed to being the person responsible for driving progress and chasing others for answers.

Ideal Backgrounds

Candidates with transferable experience from areas including: Operations, Logistics, Project management, Contract management, Account management, Customer service leadership, Hospitality, Healthcare coordination and the Armed Forces.

Candidates who have previously managed a busy caseload, portfolio of accounts, service desk or site diary could also be particularly relevant.

Ex-Military Candidates

This could be an especially interesting opportunity for experienced service leavers and veterans who are strong at coordination, stakeholder management, prioritisation and decision-making.

Rather than looking for a particular military trade, the client is interested in people who have been trusted with genuine responsibility and can demonstrate the ability to:

  • Manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Take ownership of problems through to resolution.
  • Coordinate people and resources.
  • Communicate effectively with different stakeholders.
  • Make sound decisions with incomplete or changing information.
  • Maintain momentum when other people need to provide actions or answers.
  • Remain professional when dealing with difficult or emotionally challenging situations.

That could make the position relevant to personnel from operations, logistics, engineering, administration, project support, training or leadership appointments across all three Services.

Working Environment

Responsiveness is fundamental to the organisation’s work.

Fire and flood incidents can happen at any time, and the business operates a 24-hour response service. Candidates should therefore understand that the nature of the work can have an impact outside conventional 9-to-5 working hours.

The role is based in Redruth, Cornwall, with support provided to depots in Devon, Berkshire and the Midlands.

Essential Requirements
  • DBS check – essential.
  • Full driving licence.
  • UK work authorisation.
  • English language ability.
  • Ability to reliably commute to Redruth, TR15 3QY, or relocate before starting employment.
  • GCSEs or equivalent are preferred.
Salary & Benefits
  • £30,000 – £35,000 per annum.
  • Company pension.
  • Profit-share scheme.
  • Cycle to Work scheme.
  • Health & wellbeing programme.
  • On-site parking.
The Opportunity

This is an unusual opportunity to move into a specialist industry without already having technical fire, flood, insurance or construction experience.

You’ll develop new technical knowledge while applying existing skills in leadership, organisation, customer management and problem-solving.

Most importantly, the work has a clear purpose: helping customers recover following serious fire or flood damage and guiding them through what can be an extremely difficult period.
