Job summary

Acorn Insurance in Liverpool is seeking a Technical Business Analyst to bridge business needs and technology teams. You’ll capture requirements, document and translate them into technical solutions, and work with Agile delivery teams to implement meaningful change.

The role focuses on creating clear technical specifications, data flows, and integration points while expanding knowledge of the technologies used and collaborating with stakeholders across the business.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Business Analyst or Technical Business Analyst.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
  • Proficient with SQL and Excel for analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver core business analysis activities across diverse delivery processes.
  • Document requirements for UAT and post-implementation support.
  • Produce detailed technical documentation including system architecture and data flows.
  • Develop understanding of the technologies used within the business.
  • Provide data-driven insights to guide decisions.
  • Lead As-Is and To-Be process modelling with a technical focus.
  • Ensure technical requirements are clear to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the development team to shape solution implementation and promote best practices.

As a Technical Business Analyst at Acorn Insurance, you’ll bridge the gap between business and technology teams. You’ll use your technical knowledge to support the delivery of business change, ensuring requirements are understood, accurately documented and translated into effective technical solutions.

Job Title: Technical Business Analyst

Working hours: 37.5 Hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am-5:30pm

Salary: up to £48000 depending on experience

Location: Liverpool City Centre on a hybrid working basis

What you will be doing:
  • Deliver core business analysis activities across a range of business delivery processes, including, but not limited to, Agile frameworks.
  • Ensure that appropriate and accurate documentation is created and maintained throughout the project lifecycle to support User Acceptance Testing and post-implementation aftercare.
  • Produce documentation with a high level of technical specification, including system architecture, data flows, integration points, configuration settings and any custom development where necessary, to ensure clarity, traceability and ease of maintenance.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the technologies used within the business.
  • Use this knowledge to provide best-approach insight, enabling business stakeholders to make informed decisions.
  • Lead “As-Is” requirement gathering and “To-Be” process modelling with a technical focus.
  • Ensure that technical requirements are thoroughly analysed and clearly documented, supporting a shared understanding across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Actively participate in discussions with the development team to help shape the implementation of solutions, ensuring alignment with business needs.
  • Constructively challenge technical approaches where necessary, promoting best practice and ensuring that the most effective solution is delivered.
  • Review existing processes and use data analysis to support business decisions, using SQL, Excel and other relevant tools.
  • Provide insight into system integrations, APIs and automation opportunities.
  • Work independently on technical projects, escalating highly complex challenges where appropriate.
What we are looking for:
  • Experience working as a Business Analyst, Technical Business Analyst or within a similar technical analysis role.
  • A good understanding of the technology landscape and the ability to use this knowledge to enhance business analysis skills.
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical documentation, supporting efficient requirements gathering and a clear understanding of how business requirements translate into technical requirements.
  • Ability to use technical understanding and data to inform decisions and guide the business towards the most effective solution.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience of working within Agile delivery environments.
  • Agile or Scrum certification, such as Scrum Master or Agile Practitioner, is preferred.
  • Experience using SQL, Excel or similar tools to support analysis and decision-making is desirable.
