Job summary

Macphie is seeking a Technical Baker in Glenbervie, Aberdeenshire. This hands-on role focuses on becoming the bakery subject matter expert, running practical trials, evaluating ingredient functionality, and guiding product development with the Product Design, Food Applications and Commercial teams.

Ideal candidates have extensive hands-on bakery experience, broad knowledge of ingredients and formulations, and strong problem-solving and communication skills to support customer projects and

Qualifications

• Extensive practical bakery experience in commercial or development bakery environments.
• Strong knowledge of bakery ingredients, formulations and manufacturing processes.
• Experience supporting bakery product development, trials or technical bakery projects.
• Broad bakery knowledge across products such as cakes, bread, sweet bakery and other baked goods.
• Good understanding of ingredient functionality and formulation impact on finished products.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Act as a technical bakery expert across Macphie, collaborating with Product Design, Food Applications and Commercial teams.
• Carry out practical bakery trials to validate new products, concepts and formulations.
• Advise on bakery ingredients and how formulation changes affect quality and performance.
• Test and challenge products to ensure required quality, consistency and manufacturability.
• Troubleshoot formulations and manufacturing challenges with practical solutions.
• Assess products for functionality, shelf life and manufacturability.
• Support development of innovative bakery solutions based on customer needs and market trends.
• Provide specialist bakery expertise during customer projects, trials and demonstrations.
