Job summary

Wolverhampton City Council is seeking a Technical Assistant to support our exhibitions programme and care of collections across the City Council’s cultural venues: Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Bantock House and Bilston Gallery. The post holder will assist with exhibition changeovers, preparing and maintaining exhibits, minor conservation work and assisting with exhibition planning.

The role requires good health and safety awareness, attention to detail and the ability to work as part of a team,

Qualifications

  • Experience in an art gallery or museum setting is preferred.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with attention to safety.
  • Organised and detail-oriented with practical skills.

Technical Assistant
Salary - £13,201.50 - £14,071.00 (Grade 4)
Hours - 18.5 hours
Work Pattern - Monday - Friday between 9am - 5pm
Contract type - 2x Part Time, Fixed Term Contract until 30 March 2028
Work Style - Fixed: permanent council location

Wolverhampton Arts and Culture are seeking a Technical Assistant to support our exhibitions programme and collections care across the City Council’s cultural venues: Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Bantock House and Bilston Gallery.

The suitable applicant will ideally have experience of working in an art gallery or museum setting to prepare and install high-quality exhibitions. The Technical Assistant will support the Technical Officer in all aspects of exhibition changeovers, preparing and maintaining exhibits, minor conservation work and assisting with exhibition planning.

This role requires you to be an organised self-starter who is able to work as part of a team.Excellent practical skills, health and safety awareness, and attention to detail are essential. The post also requires frequent manual handling and working at height. Training will be available to build additional skills.

The post-holder will work to maintain a renowned and high-quality exhibition programme in line with our current status as a National Portfolio Organisation.

NJC Pay Award for 2026 / 2027

The annual pay increases for 2026/27 for NJC Local Government Employees are currently being negotiated and, once agreed, will be effective from 1 April 2026.
