Job summary

SR2 REC LTD is seeking a Technical Architect to influence the technical direction of a complex public-sector platform. This remote, outside IR35 contract role focuses on identifying debt, optimising cloud usage and shaping a scalable, sustainable service.

You'll work with Product, Delivery and Engineering teams to assess architecture, prioritise improvements and produce clear backlogs, architectural decisions and handover material for ongoing operations.

Qualifications

• Strong technical architecture background with experience improving existing systems.
• Clear understanding of cloud architecture across Azure and/or AWS.
• Experience assessing technical debt, dependencies and architectural risks.
• Track record of providing governance, assurance and architecture decisions.
• Ability to translate findings into prioritized, actionable recommendations.

SR2 is recruiting a Technical Architect to help improve an established digital platform within a complex public-sector environment. This is an opportunity to shape its technical direction, identify practical improvements and support its move towards a more resilient, scalable and sustainable service.

The Role

Working alongside Product, Delivery, Engineering and operational support teams, you'll assess the existing architecture and turn your findings into clear recommendations and achievable delivery priorities. You'll combine architectural oversight with practical technical input, helping teams understand what needs to change, why it matters and how to sequence the work.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess the current architecture, identifying technical debt, service dependencies, risks and areas requiring further investigation.
• Recommend improvements to simplify the technology estate, strengthen resilience and optimise cloud expenditure.
• Shape the technical backlog and roadmap, balancing longer-term improvements with immediate operational priorities.
• Provide technical assurance for priority work, clarifying architectural decisions, approval requirements and delivery dependencies.
• Support Product and Delivery Managers with sequencing and planning, coordinating technical input across engineering teams, support functions and delivery partners.
• Produce clear architecture records, recommendations and handover material to support knowledge transfer and sustainable ongoing operation.

Essential

• A strong Technical Architecture background, with experience reviewing and improving existing systems.
• A sound understanding of cloud architecture across Azure and/or AWS.
• Experience assessing technical debt, integration dependencies and architectural risks.
• A track record of providing technical governance, assurance and clear architectural decisions.
• Ability to translate technical findings into prioritised, actionable recommendations.
• Confidence working across Product, Delivery, Engineering and operational support teams.
• Comfortable combining strategic oversight with detailed technical investigation.

Desirable

• Experience within public-sector or similarly regulated environments.
• Practical experience of cloud cost optimisation, technical rationalisation and resilience improvements.
• Experience transitioning established platforms into sustainable support and operating arrangements.
