Job summary

Simplyhealth in Reading is seeking a Technical Accountant to ensure robust financial reporting, controls and regulatory compliance. You will partner with Finance, auditors and senior stakeholders to translate complex accounting issues into actionable insights, support month-end and year-end processes and drive meaningful analysis.

You will also help improve processes, leverage data and technology, and apply tools like Dynamics 365, Power BI and Excel to elevate reporting.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical accounting guidance and papers on complex matters.
• Support production of management accounts, journals and reconciliations.
• Lead balance sheet reviews and financial analysis.
• Maintain strong financial controls and governance.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow planning.
• Produce reporting packs for executives and the Board.
• Support statutory reporting, audit activity and regulatory submissions.
• Collaborate with Commercial Finance, FP&A and operations for insights.
• Drive continuous improvement in processes, data quality and reporting.
• Leverage Dynamics 365, Power BI and AI tools for better analysis.

As a Technical Accountant, you'll play a key role in ensuring our financial reporting is accurate, well controlled and compliant with relevant accounting and regulatory requirements. You'll act as a trusted technical expert within Finance, helping the business understand the financial implications of key decisions while supporting robust governance and reporting practices.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine technical accounting expertise with commercial insight and business partnering. You'll work closely with colleagues across Finance, auditors, actuaries and senior stakeholders, providing guidance on complex accounting matters, supporting month-end and year-end activities, and delivering meaningful financial analysis that helps drive decision-making across the organisation.

You'll also have the opportunity to influence how Finance operates, helping to improve processes, strengthen controls and make better use of technology, data and emerging automation tools.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing technical accounting guidance and preparing technical papers on complex accounting and regulatory matters.
• Supporting the production of accurate management accounts, journals, reconciliations and month-end reporting.
• Leading balance sheet reviews, financial analysis and variance reporting.
• Maintaining a strong financial control environment and supporting governance processes across Finance.
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting and planning activities, including cash flow forecasting and balance sheet planning.
• Producing reporting and insight packs for senior stakeholders, committees, executive leadership and the Board.
• Supporting statutory reporting, audit activity and regulatory submissions.
• Partnering with Commercial Finance, FP&A and operational teams to provide financial insight and challenge.
• Driving continuous improvement across financial processes, data quality and reporting.
• Leveraging tools such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, Power BI, Excel and emerging AI-enabled solutions to improve analysis and reporting.
