TeacherActive is recruiting Team Teach SEND Teaching Assistants for specialist SEND schools across Bristol and South Gloucestershire, starting September 2026. You will support pupils with complex needs, employing Team Teach or de-escalation techniques to promote emotional regulation and engagement.

This full-time, long-term role offers dedicated consultant support, PAYE payroll, CPD access, and potential for progression within specialist SEND settings.

Qualifications

  • Team Teach training or recognised de-escalation/positive handling training.
  • At least 6 months' experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
  • Experience in specialist SEND settings or similar environments.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and small-group support to pupils with complex needs.
  • Use Team Teach or de-escalation techniques to manage dysregulation safely and positively.
  • Support pupils to develop confidence, independence, communication and life skills.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists and other professionals to plan support.

TeacherActive is working with a number of specialist SEND schools across Bristol and South Gloucestershire, who are looking to recruit experienced Team Teach SEND Teaching Assistants from September 2026.

These schools support children and young people with a range of complex SEND, including Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), sensory processing needs and behaviours that challenge.

The schools provide nurturing and supportive environments, with a strong focus on personalised learning, communication, emotional regulation and independence.

The Role

As a Team Teach SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals to provide individual and small-group support to pupils with complex needs.

You will use your Team Teach or de-escalation training to help pupils manage challenging situations safely and positively, while promoting emotional regulation, engagement and positive behaviour.

You will need to remain calm and consistent during periods of dysregulation, build strong relationships with pupils and understand that behaviour can be a form of communication.

You will support pupils to overcome barriers to learning while encouraging their confidence, independence, communication and life skills.

The Successful Team Teach SEND Teaching Assistant Will Have:

Team Teach training or recognised de-escalation/positive handling training.

Recent experience using Team Teach, de-escalation or positive behaviour strategies is highly desirable.

At least 6 months' experience supporting children or young people with SEND, particularly Autism, complex needs or behaviours that challenge.

Experience working within a specialist SEND school, alternative provision, care or therapeutic setting.

An understanding of supporting children with complex additional needs.

The ability to remain calm, patient and resilient when supporting pupils who may become dysregulated or display challenging behaviour.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.

A consistent and nurturing approach to behaviour management.

The ability to work effectively alongside teachers, therapists and other professionals.

A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with SEND.

An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

A dedicated team of consultants available 24/7 throughout the onboarding process.
