Job description

Linking Navy to Nation with inspiring stories and experiences. Here you can come aboard the most famous ships, planes, and submarines of the Royal Navy and experience them through the stories of the people who served on them. Aswell as being truly captivated by the thousands of unique, emotional, and sometimes quirky stories that have shaped the Royal Navy into what it proudly stands for today.

You are pivotal in us achieving our vision, and to support this we embrace diversity and want everyone to feel valued and have a sense of belonging.

This is a great opportunity to join the team:

We’re looking for a confident, customer focused person who enjoys working in a front of house environment and feels comfortable combining great conversations with clear sales outcomes. You’ll be part of a friendly, high performing team, welcoming and engaging visitors in a unique and inspiring heritage setting.

Alongside providing warm, confident and engaging customer service, you’ll have a clear sales focus, actively promoting Gift Aid and guidebooks and working towards weekly conversion targets. These targets are an important part of the role and are approached in a supportive, positive way, helping to enhance the visitor journey while maximising income. You’ll also have the opportunity to earn commission on every guidebook sold.

You’ll play a key role in welcoming and engaging visitors across the site. This varied role includes ticket sales, retail support, visitor welcome, and helping bring our exhibitions and interactive experiences to life. You may be based in gallery spaces, supporting hands‑on activities, demonstrating visitor experiences, overseeing interactive elements to ensure they are used safely, supporting immersive technology experiences, and helping to deliver family activities, events and parties. You’ll also be responsible for maintaining high presentation standards, including preparing activity areas and ensuring equipment is clean, safe and ready for use. No two days are the same.

These roles are primarily based in our newest attraction, Royal Marines Experience. This attraction invites the visitor to take part in challenges inspired by Commando training, explore AR and VR that take you to the action, and discover what it takes to overcome obstacles, work as a team and rise to a challenge. And we need you to help bring it to life.

Reporting to the Visitor Experience Managers, this varied and rewarding role is vital in generating the income that allows the Museum to fulfil its charitable objectives and continue preserving and sharing the story of the Royal Navy.

What you can bring:

  • Experience in a customer-facing role; with retail or sales experience highly desirable.
  • A natural ability to spot sales opportunities, combined with the motivation, resilience, and confidence to meet and exceed targets.
  • Strong communication skills and a genuine enjoyment of engaging with people, handling objections, and closing sales in a friendly and professional way.
  • Basic understanding of Health & Safety and Security requirements, with a willingness to learn and develop further.
  • A positive, proactive attitude with pride in delivering outstanding service every day.

What we offer:

  • The opportunity to be part of a friendly and diverse workplace within a unique heritage environment.
  • Group pension plan with Royal London (6% employer contributions, 2% employee contributions and death in service benefit).
  • 25 days’ annual leave (plus bank holidays) pro rata for part time employees, increasing to 30 days’ annual leave (plus bank holidays) after 5 years’ service, pro rata for part time employees, with the option to purchase additional annual leave.
  • Enhanced maternity/adoption and paternity pay.
  • Flexible working.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Free admission to other national museums and attractions within the reciprocal agreement.
  • Discounts at our shops and cafes.
  • Free and discounted tickets for family and friends.
  • A range of other benefits including cycle to work
  • Paid reservist leave.

We want you to succeed and showcase your skills and experiences, so if you are invited to interview, we will share our interview questions with you ahead of time.
