Job summary

National Museums is seeking a Box Office Assistant to be the friendly first point of contact for visitors in Bloomsbury, London. You will promote exhibitions, events and museum experiences, processing bookings and payments with accuracy.

In this busy, customer-facing role you’ll provide information, upsell memberships, and collaborate with a small team to deliver excellent service and continuously improve ticketing operations.

  • Confidence promoting, recommending or upselling products and services.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy and good IT skills, including experience using databases and Microsoft-based systems.
  • The ability to remain calm, organised and professional in a fast-paced environment, with a collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

  • Sell and promote tickets for exhibitions, lectures, events and other Museum activities.
  • Process bookings, including school and group bookings, accurately and efficiently.
  • Provide information and guidance to visitors about exhibitions, facilities, events and the visitor offer and promote Museum Membership and other visitor services.
  • Respond to enquiries by telephone and elevate issues when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and databases and handle all administrative tasks associated with bookings including processing payments.

About the role

We're looking for a Box Office Assistant to join our Visitor & Security Services team. This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of an organisation with a world-renowned collection and a mission to inspire curiosity, understanding and engagement with cultures across the globe. The role provides a vital first point of contact for our visitors, helping them access exhibitions, events, lectures and other Museum experiences.

This role offers far more than a traditional box office position. As part of the Museum team, you'll have the opportunity to develop a strong understanding of the organisation's work, collections and public programmes. You will join a small, supportive team of four Box Office Assistants, working closely together to deliver an excellent service and contribute to continuous improvements across the function.

About you
  • Experience working in a busy customer-facing environment, ideally within a box office, contact centre or similar service setting.
