Job summary

Southend-on-Sea City Council is seeking an experienced Team Manager to lead the Families First Team. The role requires operational leadership and supervision of frontline social work, ensuring high standards of safeguarding while delivering timely interventions for children and families.

You will drive performance, manage staff development and supervise complex casework, with the flexibility of a locum contract at 37 hours per week and a competitive agency rate.

Qualifications

• Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration.
• Current Team Manager experience within frontline Children’s Services.
• Significant experience in CP, LAC, and A&I.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding frameworks.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proven frontline Team Manager with a strong background in Children’s Services to lead and support a busy team delivering high-quality interventions to children and families.

About the Role

As Team Manager, you will provide operational leadership, supervision and oversight of social work practice within the Families First Team. You will be responsible for driving performance, ensuring positive outcomes for children, and maintaining high standards of safeguarding practice.

Essential Requirements

• Qualified Social Worker with Social Work England registration
• Current Team Manager experience within frontline Children’s Services
• Significant experience in:
• Child Protection (CP)
• Looked After Children (LAC)
• Assessment & Intervention (A&I)
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and safeguarding frameworks
• Ability to manage performance, support staff development and oversee complex casework
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
